Senior CloudOps Engineer

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Date Posted: 03-29-2018
Our Client is looking forJunior CloudOps Engineers to improve and enhance the security, reliability and availability of micro services running in Amazon AWS. In this role the successful candidate will get the chance to demonstrate how business/application metrics can be an enabler in enhancing infrastructure functionality, scalability, performance and reliability. They will bring state of the art technologies such as Docker, microservices and serverless computing into production. All applicants must be willing to work in Chicago on site. This is a 6 month contract to hire position that accepts USC or GC with great communication.
What you will do:
The end customer decided to use an internal resource for the lead instead of sourcing it out and instead want to source out the remainder of the team. Here are the details:
  • They already have a Lead NetworkOps Engineer in place, and are only looking to staff the team, so ideally a Lead / Architect candidate they will not have interest in considering.   Someone with 2 to 4 years of experience would probably be ideal
    • Customer Service Skills are critical.   They want someone very customer focused
    • Communication skills are critical.
    • Linux Sys Admin skills, Puppet / Chef skills are required.   A combination of any other skills would be good
  • If you have someone that does not have a green card, they would be willing to consider them, however they would not be able to consider them for a C2H option.  Ideally however, they do want to see Green Card / US Citizens because they would like a 6 month C2H
  • Locations:  They do want these individuals onsite at one of their client locations.   The Lead Engineer is in Chicago and it would be a benefit for the candidates to be able work in the same office.    But they still will consider candidates in other cities.
  • Candidates will be working 8 hour days, and eventually will be on a rotation on-call basis.
Additional information
Duration: 6 months. Could be a possible 6 month contract to hire
Scope of work: truly a staff aug. the environment and the overall responsibilities will be managed by the client.
Location: 2 in East Cost (either Chicago or St. Louis) and 2 in West Coast (SF or Seattle). The client has a large enough presence/office in each of the 4 locations. Teams are spread across the 4 locations. Location flexibility is based on candidate skills.
Additional job details:
This is an infrastructure operational position. Individuals will own uptime of the site as well as services running within the site.
The automation tools are all home grown. They have a team of data scientists that essentially build the microservices and another team of S/W developers (OE) that write the code to build the final product to run on the Infrastructure (AWS).
These 4 people will be responsible for a third team that -- among other responsibilities – liaises between the data scientists and the OE team.
Aside from Technical Requirements:
The ideal candidate should be a capable engineering mindset, but blessed with the ability to ingest lots of information during critical outages or performance deterioration, then use their experience, creativity, and the tools at hand to diagnose possible root cause issues. All the while, they’re engaging others on the Ops, software and scientific team to triangulate on the problem at hand.
