Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

Technical Operations is a team within Data Engineering and is responsible for ensuring that the technical, data, and processing needs of the business are met through the efficient operation, availability, and maintenance of the data processing systems that support the SAT, PSAT/PN, AP, CLEP and other Client programs, products, and services.

The Technical Operations group of the Client seeks an Operations Engineer with strong technical skills to work closely with Data Engineering staff, key business stakeholders, and Information Technology (IT) staff to support continuous business operations. The Operations Engineer is accountable for making certain that day-to-day business operations for the Client programs and products are adequately supported from a production and technical support standpoint and operate in a high-quality, and highly reliable manner.

The Operations Engineer and is responsible to execute and deliver the inbound and outbound suite of operational feeds, data exchanges, and related micro-services. The Operations Engineer must also work closely with IT/OPs staff and team members to validate the quality of data exchanges to ensure systems are operating as expected. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in all aspects of data analysis, including data manipulation, normalization, and gathering data from multiple sources in order to provide a unified view of inbound and outbound data exchanges.

The Operations Engineer will solve complex data and system related issues, and along with direction from the Sr. Operations Analyst/Engineer, is expected to solve them using a variety of technical and analytical skills, and be able to document and standardize the processes for solving those problems. A successful candidate will generate efficiencies and mitigate risk within the data engineering group, through sound technical analysis, and will generate value for the business by using creative solutions to solve immediate business problems. The Operations Engineer should be able to adapt and develop the technical expertise under the DevOps model, using Amazon Web Services and continuous delivery systems and services. The Operations Engineer will work with development teams and assist with development or operation of tools, applications, and/or services that are needed to facilitate both new and existing processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Analyze, model, and manipulate data using SQL or SQL-like query languages.
• Support big data exchange systems and ad-hoc data extracts using established data governance guidelines, security policies, and best practices.
• Ensure operations teams have procedures and methods in place to obtain technical support from internal and external IT groups, whether related to software malfunction, system downtime, data integrity, or infrastructure failure and share information with customers and cross-functional team members.
• Coordinate and execute daily activities based upon the direction of senior team members and leadership.
• Provide insight, feedback, and technical expertise to cross-functional groups for pilots, studies, and other new initiatives..
• Assist with the development of technical and repeatable solutions or tools in order to ensure the Production environment is both stable and data quality standards are met.
• Ensure incidents are regularly tracked, monitored, resolved, and prioritized for future releases using Agile and DevOps concepts and best practices.

Ensure the following is delivered to specification and operational:
• Operate a system that is delivered by IT which exchanges and transforms data by feeds or services between our systems and vendor partners and delivered according to schedule.
• Manage production incidents. Including communications, triage, resolution of issues as feasible (including creation of scripts and/or analyzing logs), engaging IT for code-related issues, tracking of incidents, and coordination with vendor (s) in resolution.
• Monitor, measure, and report on data quality.
• Create, modify, and maintain quality checks performed against data within the system within the database and output files.
• Analyze impact of changes; assess gaps in existing operational processes.
• Assist the team during high-volume or peak processing dates and windows.

Required Skills:*
Bachelors' Degree in Engineering or related analytical/technical field is required.
3-5 years relevant experience.
Experience in Technical/Batch Operations and large scale data management operations.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills required.
Strong process improvement experience required.
Must be comfortable working between business users and IT; familiar with common functions and terminology.

Related Skills & Other Requirements:
• Strong experience with AWS Technologies or other cloud technologies including Cloudwatch, DynamoDB, SQS, and Lambda.
• Expertise in understanding and writing SQL and stored procedures in Oracle Databases and MySQL.
• Strong ability to explain advanced data concepts to database developers and architects, end users, and business users.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated high competency in balancing multiple projects and conflicting priorities.
• Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Experience in process analysis and documentation.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, Project, and Outlook) is required.
Knowledge of Appian, C#, java, Informatica ETL, UNIX is preferred
