System Engineer

Our client in Washington, DC is seeking a System Engineer for a contract opening. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development and deployment of systems components, including enterprise infrastructure, information systems, Projects are typically focused on both software and hardware components. Evaluates existing systems to understand capabilities and recommend solutions. Work with non-technical business owners to understand needs and develop a technical solution. Participates in the layout design and installation of new systems or modification of existing systems. Must have strong communication skills to interact with business counterparts. 7-10 years of prior systems engineering experience in large enterprise environments is required.
 
Required Skills
  • Familiarity with all recent releases of macOS (Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra). (features, patching, etc)
  • Understanding of LDAP binding, particularly of binding macOS to Active Directory. Mac and Windows integration using native Apple and Microsoft tools
  • Understanding and familiarity with networking concepts. In particular, the roles of DHCP (renew and release leases), DNS (nsupdate), VPN (in particular, Cisco AnyConnect).
  • High level of familiarity with Mac management at the command line level. Experience with both bash scripting and AppleScript. Comfort with running scripts that change user context (so the script is run as the logged-in user rather than as root).
  •  Experience using the JAMF Casper Suite tools (Recon, Composer, Remote, Admin). Familiarity with various tools to assist in the deconstruction and rebuilding of installer packages (fseventer, Pacifist, Composer, InstaDMG, and autoPKG). Prefer JAMF Casper certification
  •  An in-depth understanding of the OS imaging process using either JAMF, Netboot,NetImage, or ASR.
  •  Knowledge of the role of the keychains in the user experience and overall knowledge of root and site certificates and their role in secure communication/browsing in macOS.
  •  High level of knowledge in Microsoft products for the Mac, including Office 2016 (O365), Exchange, Skype for Business, OneDrive and OneNote. This knowledge is to include deployment, configuration and troubleshooting of these products.
  •  Experience in working with third-party engineering level support (Microsoft, Apple, JAMF, various security vendors).
  • Review new hardware releases and recommend upgrades/identify flaws and maintain a supported mac infrastructure through supported vendor relationship management activities.
  •  The ability to clearly communicate to both team members and the user community. This may include writing RFCs, sending out email communications to management and/or the users, writing How-To documentation with step-by-step procedures to include supporting graphics (screen caps mostly). Desired Skills
  •  First-hand experience with the installation and administration of the JAMF Software Server. This would include experience building policies for mass deployment, building Smart Groups, deploying configuration profiles. Prefer JAMF certification
  • Working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (server platform for JAMF Software Server). This should include the installation and configuration process for SAMBA, Java JDK, Tomcat, MySQL and Apache.
  •  Familiarity with macOS and Windows Certificate Server interaction (ability to build configuration profiles to pull down user or machine certs from AD).
  •  Comfortable working within a managed Change process environment (filing RFCs with detailed information on the servers/users affected, providing an overview of the update process and a fallback in the event of failure).
  • Troubleshoot and manage packaging and deployment of Adobe Products (Creative Cloud apps, Reader, Flash, etc)
  • Familiarity with integration of Apple devices (Mac laptop, desktop, iOS mobile devices)
  • Install, configure and maintain Acronis Connect on Windows Servers for Spotlight searching of predominantly Mac shares
  • Troubleshoot Apple hardware problems
  • Experience with managing Apple Xserve
  • Experience in managing a Font Server (Font Reserve, Suitcase, Universal Type Server)
  • Experience with the installation and configuration of security tools on macOS, including Symantec Endpoint Protection, Cylance Protect, OpenDNS Roaming Client.
